Project description
The challenge
Basic computer sessions were part of the curriculum, but students had only one hour of largely theoretical teaching and practised on printed keyboard templates instead of real computers.
Our solution
SE Asia Foundation provided computers, tables, chairs, projectors and contributions to monthly local teacher fees, extending its support to a second school after positive results at the first. More than 40 computers and keyboards from Swiss telecom firm Sunrise, plus additional monitors and connectors, allowed us to set up further labs. Our team worked with local teachers on a curriculum with pre-tests, post-tests and monthly assessments.
The impact
65 students from the first two computer labs have completed courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the internet, boosting their confidence ahead of grade 7, where computer classes and exams are required for promotion. By the end of 2024, four primary schools will be supported under the project.
Made possible by
We are grateful to our generous donor SE Asia Foundation and to Swiss telecom firm Sunrise for the donation of computers and keyboards.
