Volunteer
Make a difference – travel to Cambodia during your gap year with BAMBOOS!
Do you dream of a gap year filled with experiences, community, and real impact?
With BAMBOOS, you can travel the world and make a meaningful difference at the same time. We work in Cambodia, where young people from Denmark help give children better schooling, more opportunities, and a stronger foundation for the future.
A stay with us gives you experiences you can’t plan from home, a strong international community, and new friendships — all while you grow personally and get to know a completely new culture. You’ll be close to both our local team and the children and families we support.
Cambodia is a young and welcoming country, full of energy, culture, and warm people, but it also faces challenges related to poverty. That’s why we build and renovate schools, establish libraries, donate bicycles and uniforms, and create concrete projects that give children a better future.
As a volunteer, you become an active part of the work. You can teach English, support specific school projects, assist our local team, help out in the bicycle workshop, and contribute to communication.
We are already fully established in Cambodia, so you step straight into a strong setup with local staff and ongoing projects. This means that from day one, you become part of something real — a meaningful gap year where you grow personally while giving children in Cambodia new opportunities.
What do you get out of it?
Make a difference
You’ll become an active part of our work to strengthen education, health, and living conditions in local communities. Your hands and your commitment help give children in Cambodia a better future.
Gain perspective on life
When you work with the children and take part in daily life in Cambodia, you quickly realise how much it means to help others. You become more resilient, more grateful – and richer in life experience.
Win-win
The local communities know they need help – and they welcome it. Through your efforts, you support both individuals and the community, and you become a role model for the children. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.
Practical information
Who can join?
We are looking for young Danes taking a gap year or going through a transitional phase in life – people who want to give something of themselves and receive something truly meaningful in return.
Duration
2-8 weeks (or longer) – with up to 5 working days per week. To create the greatest value – for the children, families, local communities, our local team, and for yourself – we recommend staying for at least one month.
Location
Our efforts are focused in one of the absolute poorest areas of Cambodia – the incredibly beautiful and authentic Siem Reap province in northwestern Cambodia, which is home to the world’s eighth wonder: the Angkor Wat temple complex.
Accommodation
You will be staying in the city of Siem Reap, with a population of around 100,000. Here, you will find a unique mix of local charm, culture, vibrant life, and a backpacker vibe. You will live either in an apartment with other volunteers or at carefully selected hotels, hostels, or guesthouses – and in the future, there will also be opportunities to stay with local families.
Ways you can make a difference
- Teaching
Support the children as an assistant teacher in English, creative subjects and sports at the local schools.
- Awareness
Actively participate in workshops and awareness projects on health, hygiene, clean water, and contraception.
- Practical Work
Help build and renovate schools and family houses.
- Team Support
Support our local team with English, IT, accounting, marketing, or HR.
- Flexibility
You will have the opportunity to shape your stay, and if you have special interests, let’s discuss where and how you can make the greatest possible impact. It is also possible to combine the areas mentioned above.
This is what makes BAMBOOS unique
The real deal
You will be working at public schools in areas where the need is great and resources are limited. Here you immediately feel the authenticity – and how much your effort truly matters.
Our own office
We have our own office in Siem Reap and a small, experienced Cambodian team of eight people who know the schools, communities, and authorities inside and out – and who will be close by to support you at all times.

We take responsibility. That is why we limit the number of volunteers – to ensure quality and safety for both you and the children.
