Project description
The challenge
The School Hygiene Improvement Project set out to improve sanitation facilities and hygiene practices at five rural primary schools – and to make sure the schools could sustain them on their own.
Our solution
We constructed six toilet rooms, installed six urinals and 15 handwashing stations, and provided two trash bins per school. Students and teachers received hygiene education, local teachers were trained to integrate hygiene lessons into regular classroom activities, and maintenance teams were established at each school.
The impact
992 students and 45 teachers received hygiene education, and all adopted improved practices such as brushing teeth, washing hands, proper toilet use, drinking clean water and managing waste. The facilities are maintained by school committees, and parents and local leaders actively supported the initiative, including through fundraising for their schools.
Made possible by
With the unwavering support of the Green Leaves Education Foundation, the project achieved its objectives at all five schools.
