Ida Marie and Nelli have recently spent time with the local BAMBOOS team in Cambodia, gaining meaningful insight into the everyday work being done to create better opportunities for vulnerable children and families.
During their volunteer stay, they visited several schools supported by BAMBOOS and experienced first-hand how education can become a path out of poverty. They saw the joy and importance of children receiving school bags with essential supplies such as pencil cases and shoes — items that are not always a given, but which can become powerful symbols of hope, learning, and opportunity.
Ida Marie and Nelli also gained insight into the impact of BAMBOOS’ bicycle project. In Denmark, cycling to school is often associated with independence. In Cambodia, it can be both a necessity and a privilege, as many children live far from school and not all families can afford a bicycle.
Their visit highlights the important role of volunteering to support children in Cambodia to break the poverty cycle, while giving Danish youth opportunities for personal development, responsibility, and a global outlook.
