Project description

The challenge

At Kork Morn Primary School, the shortage of classrooms means children are being taught in conditions that are simply not fit for learning. Some students study in a deteriorated open-air structure with little more than a roof and a whiteboard. When it rains, water enters and the area can flood, while the noise of heavy rain on the roof makes it almost impossible for students to hear the teacher. On hot days, the heat becomes extremely uncomfortable. Lessons are constantly exposed to weather, noise and disruption, making it difficult for students to concentrate and teachers to teach. For children coming to school to build their future, this should not be their classroom.

Our solution

We will build three new permanent classrooms, replacing the inadequate learning space with safe, functional classrooms that can be used throughout the school year. The classrooms will provide proper protection from rain, flooding and heat and create a much better environment for teaching and learning. BAMBOOS works closely with the school, local community and the Ministry of Education to ensure the new facilities respond to local needs and provide the best possible learning environment for students and teachers.

What your support makes possible

Your support gives children something every student should have: a safe and proper classroom in which to learn. Three new classrooms will mean more children can receive their education in an environment designed for learning rather than in a deteriorated open-air structure exposed to heat and rain. Better conditions give teachers a stronger foundation for teaching and significantly improve students’ opportunities to concentrate, participate and learn. Stronger learning provides a better foundation for continuing their education, finding future employment and ultimately becoming self-reliant. Every child deserves a proper place to learn – your support helps make that possible.

Local ownership, monitoring and sustainability

The school and community are active partners in the project from the beginning. As their contribution, they commit to removing the old structure and preparing and levelling the ground before construction begins. Together with the Ministry of Education, we work to ensure the new classrooms meet the school’s needs and are used to their full potential. BAMBOOS monitors construction, quality, progress and budget throughout the project. Once completed, the school takes responsibility for the classrooms and commits to maintaining and caring for them, helping ensure they serve children for many years to come.
