Teacher training and English classes
Teacher training/English classes ongoing
Project description
The challenge
Ta Tauk Primary School serves 175 children from Grade 0 to Grade 6 in a rural farming community outside Siem Reap. For years, students and teachers have had to make do with overcrowded and severely deteriorated classrooms that provide a poor environment for learning. But better buildings alone are not enough. Limited teacher training and very little English teaching also restrict the opportunities available to the children as they grow up.
Our solution
We are transforming Ta Tauk into a safe and stronger learning environment – starting with the construction of five new classrooms. The new building creates the foundation for the next phase: certified teacher training and additional English teaching. Together, better facilities and stronger teaching will give the school the capacity to provide a much higher quality of education – and gradually take ownership of the improvements itself. The plan is for the school to take full ownership and continue the program independently after the project period. If more time is needed to achieve this, BAMBOOS guarantees to continue the program and cover the associated costs for as long as needed.
The impact
The project will directly benefit 175 students and 8 teachers – but our ambition goes beyond a new school building. Over the three-year project period, we will measure progress together with Danish impact consultancy Pluss, with targets including 30% better English results, 25% lower absence and dropout, 20% higher transition to secondary school and 20% stronger pedagogical skills among teachers. The goal is lasting change: more children attending school, learning more and leaving primary school with better opportunities for their future.
Made possible by
This project is made possible through the generous support of Welcon A/S, whose long-term commitment enables us to combine new classrooms with investment in teachers and education. The local community is an important part of the project too. Teachers, parents and local authorities have contributed to preparing the site and will help take responsibility for maintaining the school, creating strong local ownership from the beginning.
