Project description
The challenge
For many children in rural Cambodia, learning is largely confined to the classroom, with limited opportunities to develop practical life skills or learn about healthy food and nutrition. At the same time, schools often have unused land that can become a valuable resource for learning, food production and community engagement.
Our solution
We established school gardens at six primary schools, providing seeds, fertilizer and gardening materials adapted to each school’s needs. Teachers and students work together to plant, care for and harvest vegetables – turning the gardens into hands-on learning spaces for 1,587 students.
The impact
All six gardens are now established and have already completed two or more harvest cycles. Students are learning practical skills, responsibility and healthy eating while producing fresh vegetables. Some schools have also sold surplus vegetables locally, generating a small income and strengthening the connection between school, families and community.
Made possible by
The project is made possible through the generous support of Wind Estate. The schools are now taking responsibility for managing and continuing their gardens, while BAMBOOS monitors progress and provides support when needed – helping ensure strong local ownership and lasting impact.
