Project description
The challenge
The school’s kitchen had long been a critical issue due to its age and deteriorating condition. It was poorly maintained, with a leaking roof, insufficient seating and inadequate provisions for safe and hygienic meal preparation – a real risk to the health and well-being of the rural children who rely on the school for their daily meals.
Our solution
We renovated the existing kitchen facilities. The roof was repaired to stop leaks, the sitting area was expanded to give the children more space at mealtimes, the cooking area was modified with proper ventilation so smoke can escape, and a secure storage space was created to protect cooking materials from weather damage and theft.
The impact
The kitchen is now dry, safer and more hygienic, giving the children a more comfortable place to eat and a healthier cooking environment. Further support is still needed to fully realise the potential of the project and ensure long-term benefits.
Made possible by
We are most grateful to our sponsor, Swiss kitchen designer, planner and builder Andres Küchen Langenthal.
